A Pop of Burgundy

Hello All My Darling Divas!

Welcome to another day here on the blog! Today we are going to get into my latest crochet hairstyle! This will be the first video of 2016, but not the first blogpost! The first blogpost went live yesterday at 5PM, and it was all about my last Curlbox unboxing! Click here to check that out. Today will be the actual first video of 2016, and I hope that the first couple of days of the new year are treating you well so far. So this simple video will just give you the details for this fabulous curly do. So enjoy the video, and meet me below for more details.

Did you enjoy the video? I hope so! My obsession with crochet braids started in 2015, but it will continue in 2016 and years to come! Its such an affordable style that I just cant get enough of! So lets get into the details for this particular style!

This is the type of hair that I used. The silky dread was installed, and then unraveled to reveal the curls. I used three packs of this color blend, and then one pack of just black. Click here to buy this exact hair online.  I purchased mine from Beauty & Beauty Beauty Supply store in Union, NJ if you live in the area. Feel free to use this picture as a reference when you go into your local BSS.

If you would like to get your hair done by Shirley send me an email over at Styledbynominusplus@gmail.com with Crochet Braids in the subject line. Only send if your located in New Jersey or willing to travel to NJ.

Hairstyle Battle Me VS Flexi Rods

Hello All My Darling Diva’s!
Welcome back! I announced yesterday on my FB Page that you will be getting FOUR blogpost this week! I had alot of technical difficulties that got in the way of me posting up here last week, so that leaves me with two extra blogpost! So I figured why not give you all a treat, and post FOUR TIMES! So yesterday I posted the first video out of the four which was my Christmas Haul ( I know kinda late!) Click here to check it out! Now lets get into what today’s video is about!

In my first blogpost for this year I explained that there would be new content coming to the blog. I already started the Curve Maintenance health and fitness series, and today I am starting up the Hairstyle Battle videos! In these particular videos I will be trying out hairstyles that I have either always wanted to try, or have tried and failed at terribly. These videos will be me trying out these hairstyles with no practice! So I have no idea how the hairstyles will come out! So in the first Hairstyle battle video I will be going up against the Flexi Rod: A Hairstyle tool that I have failed at so many times! So in the end who do think will win? Me or the flexi rods? So check out the video, and meet me below to see who wins.

So In the end I WON!!!! And I was sooo excited. I can honestly say that I didn’t think that this would work out for me, and I finally realized what I was doing wrong all these years. I was using flexi rods on DRY HAIR! I always avoided doing Flexi Rod’s on wet or damp hair because I thought I wouldn’t achieve great results. So you can only imagine my surprise when I found out that the reason why flexi rods weren’t working for me was because my hair WASN’T WET! It was really funny for to me, and that just goes to show that you should try something out instead of just assuming that it wont work.

So here are the two videos that I used to learn how to flexi rod
I gravitated towards the Chic Naturals tutorial on flexi rods because she achieved a great style on short hair. Since my hair is shorter length, I defiantly appreciated seeing this hairstyle done on hair that was close to my hair-length! She started hers on damp hair and our textures are different, so I decided to check out one more video just in case starting on damp hair was not the way to go.

So then I remembered that Joulzy made a hair tutorial on flexi rods. Joulzy is pretty much my go to 4C hair god, because all of her hair tutorial catered to Type 4C hair. When I saw that she also started on damp hair, I  knew right away that that was the missing element to my flexi rod hairstyle! That was why I always failed at this hairstyle!
After flexi rods I was left with beautiful defined curls that lasted for a couple days! The video footage did no justice, so I was def glad that the pictures captured all of my curl greatness!
Now that I have got flexi rods under my belt,  I will def be using them more often! I was very happy with the way my curls came out, and I cant wait to do them again! Moral of this story ladies, never under estimate starting on damp hair! Since my hair is Type 4C, starting on damp hair isn’t ideal. I achieve most of my style starting on dried hair. It was nice for a change to switch things up!
Ladies I hope you all enjoyed the first video in the Hairstyle Battle Videos! Let me know in the comment sections if they are any other hairstyles that you want me to try! Feel free to follow me on social media! They are all linked above! So remember to come right back here tomorrow for the third video out of the four being posted this week! Until then, love ya lots like tator tots!

This conditioner has been a lifesaver to me! Its perfect on its own, but even better that I have applied the extra oils to it. The really great thing is that you can get a large bottle of it for 5 bucks! You cant beat that!

 Hot Six Oil

This oil I have honestly been using since I was a little girl. It’s great as a hair, skin, and nail oil. It is also perfect for Hot Oil Treatments which you can also do to keep your hair moisturized. Its essential oils all blended in one bottle, and it’s really affordable!

 Spectrum Naturals: Organic Coconut Oil

There are a lot of health and beauty benefits of using coconut oil! It is honestly the best kept beauty secret. I personally love the Spectrum brand because its super affordable, and is easy to work with. Also you can save the jar after its done to use it in other ways.Click here to check out this article on 100 uses for coconut oil. It honestly blew my mind at the different ways that you can benefit from Coconut oil!

Now the good thing about this fake D.I.Y. conditioner is that is completly coustom! Use what ever oils or conditioner that you have laying around the house. If you do have to go out and purchase anything, the products listed above  can all be found for under $10 at your local grocery store, Walmart, Target, or drug store.
